Stay true to YOU
What to Do
Engagement photoshoots can tell a story about the things that make you two.. you! An indoor lifestyle photoshoot of you and yours playing games, baking, or drinking coffee together in cute cozy clothes. Then you two can do an outfit change and go frolic in the fields or beach at sunset. We can set up a little picnic, pull out the champagne and pop the fizzy while I catch it on camera. What we do is completely molded by what fits you two as a couple.
P.S. Well-behaved furry companions are always welcome.
- Beach: walk along the riverbank, chase each other, play in the water.
- Field: dance together, picnic, pop the bubbly, walk the trails holding hands.
- Farmer's Market: shopping from local vendors (buy the lady some flowers!).
- Downtown: walk holding hands, ice cream cones, find a place of interest and strike a pose!
- Forest: Hiking, camping, foraging, walk trails, piggy back, find a fallen tree to sit together on.
- Movie night with delivery on coffee table, casual clothes, and cuddles.
- Baking. Either goes steamy or cutesy with a flour mess at the end.
- Steamy couple session; lots of embracing, detail shots, and moody lighting.
- Go to a greenhouse!
- Library can be a cute place to sneak away to quietly giggle and kiss.
What to Wear
I cannot stress this main point enough: wear what you are COMFORTABLE in. If you don't like how you feel in the clothes you wear, it will come across poorly in photos. If you are self-conscious about how you look, remember that you hired a photographer that specializes in boudoir to make sure you're looking your best. I won't pull unflattering angles on you, darling. I'm here to help you shine and focus on your love and journey together.
Colors
Be mindful of the colors around you and take them into account on your color palette. We do not want more than two or three colors coming into play. If you plan to be on a sandy beach, the colors are neutral and you don't have to worry about it.. but a green meadow or blue couch should be taken into consideration. Some people will opt for all neutral to keep things looking and feeling timeless and that is totally up to you!
Neon and bright colors can wash out your skin tone or reflect back onto you when the sun hits it. Avoid these colors. There's nothing worse than trying to edit a beautiful couple with neon green or bright red skin.
EXAMPLES OF GREAT MIX:
Black | white | mauve | wine
Burnt orange | cream | dark brown | sage | forest green
Plum | light gray | sage | dark gray | forest
Sage | navy | dark brown | light gray | blue | cream
Texture
Mix materials up if you can. Cotton across the board gets pretty flat feeling in a photo, so you can mix this up with velvet, leather, denim, sherpa, or metal. This will add depth and intrigue to the photos. Curled or styled hair adds texture as well.
If you can't stand the feel of a velvet dress or other material directly against your skin, adding layers to your outfit is a great option.
EXAMPLES OF GREAT MIX:
Her: Velvet dress and curled hair.
Him: Dress slacks and button up.
Her: Long sleeve shirt with suede vest, jeggings, and boots with fur.
Him: Jeans and long sleeve shirt.
Her: Tank top, leather chord necklace, ripped jeans, barefoot
Him: T-shirt, thick leather bracelet, jeans, barefoot
Mix it up
You can do up to two or three outfits, so take advantage of it! If you want the style change to be effortless, keep a base layer to keep things streamlined. Tank top, cardigan, jeans, and chucks are easily switched over to throwing a hoodie and boots on. Or a bodysuit with joggers into a dress by slipping the dress over the bodysuit and shimmying out of the joggers. Easy peasy.
Change out accessories for an even more dramatic effect to leave it truly feeling like to separate shoots in one.
The best advice I can give you when picking multiple outfits is to consider these types to switch it up:
- Can get messy
- Comfortable and casual (but still stylish)
- Fancy date night worthy
- Consider your wedding colors
something interactive
Whether you bring something along or wear clothes you can put a lot of motion into, you'll want something to interact with during your shoot at some point to keep it from being the same cuddly kiss shots.
- A skirt to grip and twirl
- Beloved pet (well behaved)
- Champagne to pop fizzy
- Blanket from home to snuggle in or run with
- Squirt guns (epic battle!)
- Picnic with grapes, french bread loaf, and drink of choice in glass
Of course, this is something customized to who you are as a couple and it's really what makes the pictures and experience unique. Consider this a documented date to remember forever.
